FAQs

WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS?
To ensure that Donald Trump never reaches the White House.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH THIS INFORMATION?
You can either contact individual electors with the information on our home page, or use the "Master email list" tab to copy and paste it into one mass email.

ARE YOU DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS?
This is a non-partisan organization. We believe that people from all points on the political spectrum have valid, compelling reasons for not wanting Donald Trump in office.

IS THIS GOING TO ELECT HILLARY?
Doubtful. If no one receives 270 electoral college votes, the House of Representatives chooses between the top 3 candidates from the electoral college. As the House is controlled by Republicans, it is quite unlikely that they would nominate Clinton; more likely, it would be whatever third candidate the flipped electors had written in.

WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION?
All of our contact information came from public sources, mainly local political websites. We have not paid for anyone's information, nor do we have any interest in doxxing or publishing anyone's home address.

If you would like to contribute contact information that we don't already have, please feel free to send the information, as well as a link to where you found it, if applicable, to flipthe37@gmail.com.

IS THIS LEGAL?
Yes. There are states where voters can receive a fine for flipping their vote, but we've been contacted by multiple people offering to donate money toward those fines.

WHO IS MOST IMPORTANT TO CONTACT?
If you'd like to target your communication, these are the states that went for Trump and that allow their voters to flip without penalty. Asterisks indicate that Trump won by less than 10 percentage points, and that voters might be more likely to flip.

  1. A number of constitutional scholars (judges, lawyers, law professors, etc.) have suggested that state laws penalizing electors for failing to vote a certain way are unconstitutional. The Constitution doesn’t provide for such limitations on electors.

    1. Good to hear. The idea of penalizing is ridiculous. The Electoral College was set up this way to ensure that someone as unqualified and unfit for office as Trump would not get into office. As far as I'm concerned, it's the duty of these electors to vote against someone who is unfit for office.

    2. I think you’re just dreaming. I don't think you ever had a Civics class where you went to high school.

  2. If what you state is true, it wouldn't be surprising for a law firm to donate time to defend "faithless" electors. And we should start calling them "faithful" electors--faithful to the Constitution.

  3. Who would be an example of the third candidate? I sure don't want Pence to replace Donald, and if they don't want Hillary, who would be the possible choice?

  4. I'm really unclear what this means - "As the House is controlled by Republicans, it is quite unlikely that they would nominate Clinton; more likely, it would be whatever third candidate the flipped electors had written in." Meaning Gary Johnson? Or just anyone? This seems very risky. Not sure if it's as risky as Trump but - still I'm not sure now.

  5. I have total faith that this can happen. I feel like this HAS to happen.

    1. Faith is a lovely thing, but logic and fact are what's important now. It cannot happen and our laws need to be followed.

  6. Wouldn't it be prudent for us to come up with an idea for a compromise candidate and suggest that candidate, someone the GOP congress would vote for, like John McCain, or Nikki Haley, or Mitt Romney, or .....? I personally think it should be Hillary Clinton but of course the GOP congress will never do that.

  7. There's a video on Facebook from a news station, CBS 46 (can't get to the original, so that's the best I can do). The reporter says that Kasich would be the likely candidate. I can live with that.

  8. How can I be of help if I'm in a state that voted for Clinton? I won't be able to appeal as a resident of their state, but I want to try and help as much as possible!!

    1. I think you can appeal as a fellow/sister American who is concerned about our country...

  9. Why don't we agree on a compromise candidate, as suggested above, such as Kasich or Romney, and reach out to not only Republican electors, but also pushing every Democratic elector to vote for that compromise candidate as well? The objective then becomes to get that compromise candidate 270 votes in the electoral college, avoiding a vote in the House (which is likely to result in a bad outcome for Democrats).

  10. Call the Dept.Of Justice - 202-353-1555. Calls are being tallied. Leave a message. Request an audit of the vote.

  11. I really think that the idea of flipping the vote is a waste of time. A better use of all the emotional energy would be to get involved in politics on every conceivable level. Run for office, whether the PTA or a Congressional Representative and make sure your voice is heard that way. This is all just an emotional discharge that is unlikely to have any effect at all. It's time to come down from dreamland and get really active in politics. It will take a lot of time and effort. Stop looking for shortcuts and instant gratification. That's what children doo. Let us all get to work.

    1. Really. More and more evidence is accumulating about a discrepancy in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Pennysylvania and Florida. Florida really disturbs me. I believe this will build until the NSA pushes for an investigation.

  16. You're asking electors to invalidate the votes of millions of people in their states. Do you really want to do that?

There is zero chance the Founders intended for 37 electors to be able to overrule the vote of 63 million people. That would mean America is not a republic, it’s an oligarchy. Advocates cite Hamilton in Federalist 68, but Hamilton also wrote that the voters should be able to choose electors who will make a wise choice. Today, there’s no way to do that. People voted for a slate of Trump electors, because they believed those electors would transmit the choice of the voters to Congress. If those electors vote for someone else, they are betraying the voters.

This is not a case of the people making an unwise choice, that the electors should correct because they know better. Those who voted for Donald Trump disagreed with the changes Obama has made to America. They knew Hillary Clinton would continue Obama’s policies, so they voted for Trump in a legal election.

A small group of electors setting aside the votes of 63 million people, and substituting a candidate they prefer is the same as executing a coup. The consequences of that could be dire. “To tell free people there is no peaceful way they can change the direction of their country is deeply dangerous.”—Mark Steyn

    1. We have a "winner take all" system, where the candidate who gets the majority (or plurality) of the popular votes in a state gets all of the electoral votes. Obviously, one of the flaws of this system is that the candidate who wins the electoral votes does not necessarily win the popular vote. Clinton won nearly 4 million more of the popular vote than Trump. So, perhaps you should reduce your figure to 59 million from 63 million people. Also, if 37 electors turned faithless, they would be acting in accordance with the purpose of the electoral college. Alexander Hamilton had stated in the Federalist Papers that electors would be "men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice." Electors are tasked with the responsibility of preventing demagogues and individuals under the influence of foreign powers from "gaining an improper ascendant in our councils". If the electors turned faithless, they would be doing their job--preventing Russia from "gaining an improper ascendant" in the government of the United States.
