  1. Is this for all electors expected to vote with Trump, or only those in those 21 states that allow for Faithless Electors? Doing some reading, I realize that the penalty in the remaining states and DC is generally small - a fine of $500 - $1000 - and some electors from those other states might also be willing to vote their conscience or abstain.

    1. We should be appealing to those in all states. There are other comments on other pages here, with one saying that a group (I forget what group) is willing to pay the fees, and another saying that some believe the fees are unconstitutional. And they should be! The whole point of the Electoral College is to ensure that someone who is unfit and unqualified is not elected by the people. Sorry this is vague, but if you poke around the other pages here, you'll find other comments that address your question.

  2. I hate to use a giant list, but I have a feeling I will never send my letter out otherwise. I would suggest that anyone who does this be careful to use the "BCC" function. It just doesn't look so good when it's visibly clear that you are sending an email to a gigantic list.

    1. Normally I would agree, as it has a somewhat unprofessional look, but in this case I wanted everyone on that list to see everyone else, so they would understand how important and non-partisan this is. This isn't about sour grapes. It's about keeping a petulant, hateful con man out of the white house, for the good of everyone.

  7. Bill Conley replied: Sorry, pasted phone number for something else.
Founding Fathers wanted to make sure highly populated cities didn't have total control of the election. We have proven their point. If not for Electoral College, candidates would only visit large cities and the rest of the country would have no say.
No, I am required by my pledge to uphold the voter's desires, which means more than your personal request. If we went that tour, why have an election. The electoral college was put in place to keep areas with large populations from controlling the election. The people have spoken, whether or not you like it, and that vote should stand.

    2. Just got the same reply back from Bill Conley and a very rude reply back from Michael Barnett:

No chance. First, I won't cast a vote that could help make Hillary president. Second, I'm absolutely ecstatic about a Trump presidency and what he will do and has already accomplished. Third, I don't like the federal government taxing my very hard earned pay beyond what is reasonable and necessary. I don't like being penalized for being unable to afford awful Obamacare. I don't like being told what light bulbs to use in my house, what temperature to keep my thermostat on, what I can or cannot grow in my own backyard, or what I can and cannot say or think. I don't like being told by people like you I'm a racist bigot or a sexist or a homophobe or a xenophobe simply because my opinions differ from yours. I don't like seeing my country ruined economically and being made dangerously unsafe due to drugs, crime, political correctness, erosion of our morals and American culture, and threats of terrorism. We have lost many freedoms in this country over the last 28 years and I swear Donald Trump will get my vote on December 19.

Thank you for your email. Enjoy the holidays.

Note: I in no way inferred that he or anyone else was a racist, homophobe, sexist, etc. I just said that people I know and love are afraid of a Trump presidency and that Trump has set a terrible precedent for the behavior of future candidates. I emphasized Trump's unfitness to serve and I said nothing about the people who voted for him.

    3. What a stupid ass. His letter basically says, "I don't want to pay taxes (even though I expect people much poorer than me to), I don't want to make any sacrifices in order to save our planet (my comfort is more important), and I want to be able to think and say racist and misogynist things without anyone telling me it's bad." LOST MANY FREEDOMS?? Like WHAT? The freedom to say the N word without judgement? The freedom to treat women like property? Just, total gag. He is the epitome of a Republican. Total sicko, gross, worthless piece of humanity.

    1. The point of the Electoral College is that people don't vote, States do. That was it's intent - to have the States, not the people at large, elect a President. Note that the Constitution does not grant the people the right to vote for the President at all. At the beginning, 5 States selected their Presidential electors via a vote in their State legislatures (as all Senators were chosen until the 1912 passage of the 17th Amendment). That method was not completely abandoned by all the States until after 1860. It's still valid; unless your State Constitution provides otherwise your State could switch to that today. Again, you have no right under the Constitution to vote for President, so the fact that the popular vote favored Hillary Clinton is immaterial. States elect the President, not the people.

  16. There seems to be a misapprehension regarding the significance of the popular vote and the purpose of the Electoral College. The point of the Electoral College is that people don't vote, States do. It was specifically created to take the decision OUT of the hands of the general populace and away from the results of any popular vote and have the States, not the people at large, elect a President. Note that I say "any popular vote", not "the popular vote". The Constitution does not grant the people the right to vote for the President at all. 1. With even 47% of a 58% turnout only 27% of registered voters actually voted for Trump. Clinton got more votes Trump, as the recounts proceed Trumps tallies keep going down but what troubles me most of all is that he, like Clinton, is unfit to be president. Neither of them should have been running for the white house, both should have been running from the big house - they're both as crooked as three dollar bills. That's why I'm urging electors to vote for Bernie Sanders who was the clear choice of the people.

As to "harassing ordinary American folks", these people were elected to represent us in the electoral college. As such they should be prepared to hear from those they are representing - although that does not give people contacting them license to be disrespectful.

If you look at what the Constitution says about the electoral college (see archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/provisions.html) you'll see that the founders did not constrain the electors' judgement, and I've no doubt they would be outraged that states would take it upon themselves to do so.

  18. Based on the incredibly polite wording of all these letters which just shines the light on what Donald J. Trump actually did & said while campaigning for president, he is not garnering the respect from many ordinary American folks or officials in other countries who depend on us to be respectful and trustworthy. He has already gone back on many of the promises he made to those who supported him while he sought ther presidency.

  24. Here is 1 response I got:

I’m sorry, but my duty is to the people of Florida. Florida’s electoral votes were unanimously voted for Trump.

As the state goes so goes the electoral college. I have no responsibilities for the fact that the majority of the votes that

you claim makes Clinton the winner were cast in 2 states, California and New York.

I hazard to guess if the roles were reversed you would not want to change your vote.

I considered Obama unfit for office – he had no experience, he never worked and his Senatorial career consisted of voted “here” on

multiple subjects brought before the Senate. He disregarded the wants and needs of the people and put our law enforcement in

    danger with his rhetoric.

Obama’s close ties to middle eastern countries put our country in danger and we continue to fear in our country and homes because

of his lack of understanding of the danger he has put us in.

I’m sure you do not see the comparison that I’ve made, which is why your request will be denied.

Obama made his point clearly 8 years ago after the election, “ I won, you lost, get over it,” – nuff said.
